Eight million years ago, an intense volcanic activity in the region gave rise to the formation of a caldera ten times bigger than that of the current Copahue volcano. These natural events deposited VOLCANIC TUFF, IGNIMBRITE FLOWS AND SEDIMENTS OF BASALTIC LAVA on the periphery of the caldera that, today, constitute the elements of the striking figures of LOS RISCOS.
